“The best way to predict your future is to create it”
I am a landscape architect, photographer, food enthusiast, and non-hodgkin’s lymphoma (NHL) survivor. This will be my first (and not last!) century ride ever. I am also riding in honor of my grandmother, Sophie Ziemba, who died of non-hodgkin’s lymphoma. She had NHL years ago, at a time when this disease was less understood, and there were less treatment options than there are now. I was diagnosed two years ago, at age 38. I am a survivor because I am living with, and managing, my NHL until there is a cure. At present there are treatment options, but none are proven to be a definitive “cure”, and the chance of recurrence is high. I am on the treatment plan called “watchful waiting”. This means that I live my life like everyone else, while on the lookout for symptoms. Along with this vigilant style of living I am very actively trying to heal myself through diet, excercise, and mind-body awareness. For more information about that, please visit my blog watchfuliving. Here you can learn more about my wellness strategies and thoughts about living with cancer. For the two years since my diagnosis, my cancer remains in stable condition.
Your contribution will become research dollars for finding a cure for people like me. The closer we get towards understanding the cause, the closer we get towards a cure. For me, fundraising and participating in endurance events is part of what it takes to remain hopeful!! I can’t thank you enough for your support!
Warm regards,
Wendy
